BCC Meeting Night – 5 April Mono Photography & Abstract Photography

At our next meeting we will be having an interesting presentation by Ken Jenkins on Mono Photography, followed by a hands on session creating abstract photographs. Samples above were recently taken using the items you will be able to use on the night. In order to participate you will need to bring your camera and tripod (must be able to set your tripod up to shoot directly downwards) and ideally a remote cable release. A cheap option is the Neewer brand available online – handy for the next session on Light Painting as well. A macro lens is ideal but otherwise anything from 50mm to around 150mm should be fine. Bring multiple lens if unsure.

Phone Photo Fun Day

Due to circumstances I’d rather not admit to, all the images from the Fun Day uploaded to the website were cropped in a way that did not enhance them at all. You don’t want to know how long it took me to work out the problem.

See https://benalla.myphotoclub.com.au/phone-photo-fun-day/ for the proper images.

Phone Photo Fun Day

We had eleven people attend our Phone Photo Phun Day in the Gardens.

Attendees included Cath Duncombe, Glenda Black, Helen Repacholi, New members Katherine and Ian Shadbolt, Maggie Hollins, Michael Black, Mike O’Connor, Patience Cooper, new member Rhonda Kaye, and Sue Thompson.

We wandered around, fiddled with our phones, learned a bit and took some images. Later, we emailed our best to a club gmail address and downloaded them to the laptop.

Back at the Royal Hotel, we ocupied the lounge in a moderately raucous manner and giggled and gasped (as appropriate) at our efforts.

Thanks to Glenda for organising the day.

Below is a gallery of some of the images taken

Wodonga Albury camera club exhibition

Seven decades of amazing images captured through the viewfinder are being celebrated with a selection of contemporary photographs at Hyphen – Wodonga Library Gallery.

Through the Viewfinder showcases the work of talented amateur local photographers with the Wodonga Albury Camera Club, which has been capturing shots of people and places since 1953.

Club president David Woolcock said visitors to the exhibition would see a full scope of photographic images, ranging from modern digital shots of landscapes, people, animals and birds to artistic photography using very fast shutter speeds, black and white film photography and cyanotypes captured on glass plates.

“It’s quite eclectic,” he said. “There are all sorts of photographs, which is a good thing because if we all did portraits or landscapes or animals or birds it probably wouldn’t be half as interesting.

“I like that diversity and the different approaches taken by our members and it must have been difficult (for the Hyphen team) to select works to exhibit from all those we submitted.”

Karen Gardner, Team Leader Hyphen Programs, agreed it had been a challenge to narrow down the exhibition list with so many inspiring images to choose from but hoped visitors would appreciate the range and diversity of photos on display.

“We’re thrilled to present this exhibition to celebrate such a significant milestone in the club’s history and the breadth in the style and subject matter presented by the club members is sensational,” she said.

The club has been active in the border community since the beginning, with the-then Wodonga Camera Club winning the Most Humorous Float Award for its celebration of a huge folding camera on wheels during a parade for Queen Elizabeth’s Coronation in 1953.

Other milestones include a public exhibition, Wodonga in Pictures, in 1961 and running a national photography competition between 1964 and 1974.

Over the years, photographic technology has changed dramatically, including the switch to digital photography, but the club’s members have always been committed to capturing images that celebrate the community and the surroundings.

Through the Viewfinder will be on display at Hyphen’s Community Gallery until Sunday, July 9.

Reminder: VAPS Interclub competition.

We’ve extended the deadline for entries for the VAPS interclub competitions till Tuesday 7 March.

We’d like all members to submit one or two EDI and one or two print entries, so that we can have enough to put in a decent club entry.

Entries can be submitted via the Members page.

See the earlier post for more details.
