VAPS Interclub Competition 2024

This year’s VAPS convention will take place at the Federation University, Berwick from 14-16 June.

A feature of the Convention is the annual VAPS Interclub Competition, in which clubs are invited to submit up to 15 entries in each of the EDI and Print competitions, with no more than two entries in each competition by any individual member.

The deadlines this year are quite short.  Entries need to be finalised before 24 March.

Members are invited to submit up to two entries for the EDI competition and up to two more for the Print competition. Submissions can be made to the Vaps Interclub Competition 2024 collection on the club’s website (in the same area where you would submit entries to regular club competitions). Both competitions are open until Midnight Sunday 10th March.

Those submitting print entries will need to arrange to print and mount their entries and submit them before 17 March to allow time for delivery or posting the prints.

If there are more than 15 entries in either competition, a selection panel within the club will select the images to be included in the clubs entries. The selection panel will ensure that the maximum number of members are included in the competition, and second entries will only be included if needed to make up the club’s entry to the maximum 15 images in each competition.  Past experience suggests that this problem will not arise with the print competition.

The requirements for the EDI competition are the same as for regular club competitions.

The requirements for Print images are set out in the “VAPS Interclub Competitions Information” document to be found in the “Useful Information” section of the clubs website, and at https://www.vaps.org.au/competitions/vaps-interclub-competitions.html

Note the requirement that mounted prints may be a maximum of 5mm thick including the backing.

Once the entries have been selected, the EDI images will be submitted online.

Print images will need to be delivered to VAPS by 24 March. Once the print images have been selected, members will be required to print and mount their images in line with the competition requirements.

So get to it and go through your best images for the past year and get them in.

Hi Club Members,

Yesterday the Sub Committee who are organising the Exhibition for the Club’s 70th Birthday to be held in August at the Benalla Art Gallery met with the Gallery’s Director, Eric Nash to discuss moving forward with the Exhibition.

The Sub-Commitee comprises: Judy Barry, Kym Stubbs, Vicky Cooper and Doug Spowart.

The Exhibition isn’t just about displaying members’ work on walls. There are other ways to display member’s work. The Exhibition will show the talent of each member in a way that they want to see their work displayed and what they want to communicate with those seeing their work. After all, each member’s work is unique.

What we need to know is what makes the Benalla Camera Club special to you.

How do you want your work depicted and what theme would you like to portray?

What are your thoughts on how the Club celebrates the Club’s 70th through an Exhibition at the Benalla Art Gallery?

Please respond with your valuable comments asap by emailing the Club’s email: benallacameraclub@gmail.com

Alternatively you can contact myself at: judybarry59@gmail.com (0414 319 935) or Kym Stubbs at: kymstubbs53@gmail.com (0407 727 065)

Thank you.

BCC Balloon Burst Activity

When: Wed 21 Feb 2024 from 7.30pm, Where: Benalla Gardens, enter via Deas St, just past the Bowls Club.

Our first activity for 2024 will be a fun and challenging activity presented by Cath Duncombe and Sylvia Baumgarten – freezing the action of bursting balloons filled with water. Bring your camera, a selection of lens and a sturdy tripod. If you have burst mode on your camera you might want to get familiar with it before hand, or bring a remote trigger to help capture the moment. Don’t forget memory cards/batteries for lots of shots. All welcome.

BCC Fun Day – “One Shot” Challenge at Winton Wetlands

Sunday 19 November 2023 with Morning Tea at The Hub Cafe at 10.30am.

Our last Camera Club outing for 2023 will be a fun casual event where you will be challenged to present images straight out of the camera with NO editing of any kind. The idea is to make you think about exposure, composition and subject matter and not rely on post processing to improve the image. Bring your gear and start at any time on the day between 8am and 10am (if you don’t need much time or need a sleep in!). At 10.30 am we will meet to enjoy a yummy morning tea/coffee at the Hub Cafe and add your images to a laptop for a bit of light hearted discussion. Subject matter can be anything within the Winton Wetlands precinct from macro to landscape and everything in between.

PLEASE NOTE: Strictly no late participants as we need to provide numbers to The Hub and also allocate the number of images each person can submit. Please email me at: mandgblack@gmail.com to secure your place by Tuesday 14 November. Please advise if you need me to arrange car pooling. Once we have confirmed numbers we will email instructions to those attending.

End of Year Awards. Your best images of the year. Closing Soon

The End of Year Award entries close this week on Friday 3 November

There are Colour and Monochrome competitions for Landscape, Portrait, Abstract and Open categories.

You may submit up to two entries in each of the eight categories, to a maximum total of eight entries.

TO be eligible, an image has to have been submitted in an earlier club competition this year. Edits to enhance the image are allowed.

The simplest approach, if you are not editing the images is to go to the 2023 End of Year Awards competition on your Members page, and click the “select from existing uploaded images” button.

There you can click on an entry you want to use, and press the “Enter This Image in 2023 End of Year Awards” button. You will then be able to select the category.

If you are editing any images you’ll need to prepare and submit them in the usual way.

BCC Photo Opportunity – Morngag Hot Air Ballon Night Glow

Enjoy an evening out with fellow members to capture the Balloon glow event. A tripod and wide angle lens and possibly a chair might be handy. It should happen towards dark so no need to be super early. We can meet somewhere suitable on the day.
